So you want to become a Virtual Assistant?

Lots of people are starting to work remotely from home and knowing what the term"Virtual Assistant" actually is. I still have to explain what a Virtual Assistant is.


This is how I respond, "I work from home performing administrative tasks such as email management, social media management, customer service, any task that an entrepreneur would rather not do so they can spend their time scaling their business or making time for their family"


The term "Assistant" is also being argued that we are not an "assistant" rather we are a small business owner as well and should be titled differently. Whether you prefer "Assistant, "Consultant, Concierge, Expert", whatever the term, they are all under the umbrella of having a skillset that will help businesses to flourish. And that is what we want, clients to see our skills so that we can help expand their business as well as our own!


Just know, that when you are starting your VA business, your going to hear the word "niche" a lot. A lot a lot. They say to really narrow down your audience and your skillset. For me, this isn't an option as of yet because I am still learning what my "specialty area of expertise" is! The more you get experience, the easier it will be to niche down and really focus on one (or more) area of expertise. For example, if your really great with Adobe illustrator, you may want to market yourself as a designer and create logos or branding experts. The options are endless, really!



Now, lemme be honest. When I first started to become interested in becoming a Virtual Assistant, I was NOT aware of how different the world of Virtual Assistance is! There is soooo much MORE options to be creative, technical, designer-ish. I'm making up words here as I go along. Bear with me! There are so many diverse skills, that anyone can grow and expand their service skillset!!!


It's also very overwhelming, at least for me it was and still is! There is so much to learn, so much to grasp and figure out. I come from a world of administrative assistance in an office setting working the typical 9-5 so when Virtual Assistant was my newfound obsession, the skills that I was now being introduced to were and are endless! I have to know social media management? Logo creation? What?!?!


I most certainly did not do this kind of work in my office jobs, where I was billing, answering phones, checking emails, faxing, invoicing, and other tasks that were not so technology-related.
